The History of CASSP
A Brief History
From “Unclaimed” Children to CASSP Across the Commonwealth
1982
In 1982 a national study was conducted that identified that 2/3 of all children with serious emotional disorders were not receiving the appropriate services. These children were considered “unclaimed.”
1984
In 1984 congress envisioned a comprehensive mental health system of care for children, adolescents, and their families and appropriated funds for CASSP.
1985
Pennsylvania received the first federal CASSP grant and began building a state and local infrastructure for a comprehensive system of care.
1986 - 1991
Pennsylvania built a state and local CASSP system across the commonwealth.
Today
Since initiation, CASSP has been implemented throughout the commonwealth to address each counties’ unique needs. In Lycoming and Clinton Counties, CASSP is a blended model of both administrative and case management components designed to best serve children and families.
Lycoming-Clinton CASSP is an evolving model that encourages feedback from our families and child-serving systems.
